The safety zone will be enforced from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day starting on midnight December 2, 2024, through May 27, 2027. The safety zone will only be enforced during periods when construction operations at the Glen Island Bridge rehabilitation project are in progress. The Safety Zone encompasses all waters within a line beginning at 40° 53′ 18.58″N 73° 46′ 56.26″W; thence to 40° 53′ 22.08″N 73° 46′ 59.39″W; thence north along the shore to 40° 53′ 23.8″N 73°46′ 57.51″W; thence to 40° 53′ 19.15″N 73° 46′ 52.54″W and thence south along the shore back to the point of origin (WGS 84). You may not enter, remain in, or transit through the Safety Zone during the enforcement period unless authorized by the Coast Guard Captain of the Port. Other Federal, State and local agencies may assist these personnel in the enforcement of the Safety Zone. Mariners are urged to exercise caution while in the area. Bridges North Channel Saybrook To New Haven – Connecticut River/General/Bridges/Construction General/Bridges/Construction From: 2025-05-08 To: 2029-12-31 Location: 41.31087778° N / 72.34920833° W Bridge Name: Amtrak Railroad Bridge CONNECTICUT – CONNECTICUT RIVER – From July 7, 2025, through December 30, 2029, AMTRAK will have moored barges in place during the construction and demolition of the Amtrak Connecticut River Bridge. Due to the placement of a temporary fendering system, the horizontal clearance of the bridge in the navigation channel will be reduced to 115 feet. Similarly, the placement of temporary signal cables overhead of the navigation channel will reduce vertical clearance to 100 feet above MHW when the bridge is in the open position. From October 1, 2025 to November 15, 2025, contractors will be performing dive operations to remove submarine cables from 0630-1830 Monday through Friday. From October 30, 2025 through October 31, 2025, dive operations are scheduled to take place in the navigational channel. Barges will be placed along the bridge fenders blocking the channel. Mariners are encouraged to avoid the channel while dive operations are taking place. Beginning August 1, 2025 through December 30, 2029. The crane barge 120’ x 300’ will be moored outside of the navigational channel used for stationary material barges to support the installation of new bridge components and removal of the existing structure towards the end of the project.. Beginning December 22, 2025, barges and platform will be placed in the navigational channel for the new bridge construction. During this time the navigational clearance will be reduced to 100′ vertical clearance and 110′ horizontal clearance. This work platform will be installed until November 2028. Repairs will be conducted Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with possible night shifts from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. A temporary work platform will be suspended from the bridge adjacent to each bridge pier with a work barge underneath in the waterway. These work platforms will reduce the horizontal clearance of the bridge to 57 feet.
