Stocking & Freshwater Highlights: Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Tiger Trout were all stocked. The Fisheries Division stocked more than 500,000 trout between March and May.
Lakes & Ponds: April 9, 2026 – Spawning refuge fishing closure within 100 feet of the islands within Wyassup Lake and along the northern shoreline in order to protect Smallmouth Bass spawning.
Striped Bass: Bunker, squid, mackerel, butterfish, whiting, sand eels and spearing are fueling an excellent striped bass bite from the Western to Eastern Sound. Large striped bass are feeding on bunker, butterfish, mackerel, and whiting in Long Island Sound, while fluke, scup, and sea bass fishing steadily gains momentum. Middletown: Also heard from customers fishing some of the reefs outside the river and to west who have had good striper action as well.
Marine & Offshore Outlook: Still booking some charters for the summer, so email the office to get your date on the calendar.” Anglers aboard the Black Hawk II closed out the month of May with an excellent bite of over- and under-slot striped bass.
Highlight Catches: Clinton: The solid striper fishing soldiers on with bass in the region ranging from school-sized on up to some true cows. Bunker, squid, mackerel, butterfish, whiting, sand eels and spearing are fueling an excellent striped bass bite from the Western to Eastern Sound.
Recent Changes: The Fisheries Division stocked more than 500,000 trout between March and May. Stocking the waters of the Skungamaug River downstream of the Woodbridge Road bridge has also been suspended until public use is restored.
