NEAR RECORD TIGER MUSKIE CAUGHT IN NEW YORK
January 2021
What is a Tiger Muskie?
Tiger Muskies are a hybrid species that is a mix between a muskie and a northern pike. They grow faster, fight harder and are stronger than either source species alone. While some tiger muskies have occurred naturally in the wild most of them are stocked fish. They also tend to be sterile and do not reproduce themselves. A near record tiger muskie was caught in New York.
Tiger Muskie Records
Per the IGFA, the all tackle world record tiger muskie was caught in 1919 and was a massive fish weighing in at 51 pounds 3 ounces. The Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame lists the tiger muskie caught by ice fishing record as a fish of 45.5 inches and weighed 27 pounds, 5 ounces. On January 26, 2021, Syracuse.com reported that a tiger muskie was caught ice fishing with live bait in Otisco Lake that was also 45.5 inches and weighed over 26 pounds. A great trophy fish for sure, but not quite the record.
