Use Tiny Terminal Tackle to be a Successful Angler

November 2022

Shark Terminal Tackle

At times a simple, finesse approach is needed to catch wary fish.  This is especially true in clear water, small streams and even in the ocean when targeting fish with strong vision capabilities such as Albies.  Hooks, swivels, clips, and line that are too large will be effect your presentation and will prevent you from being successful.

Finesse Fishing Tactics

  • Use high quality, small and strong hooks, and terminal tackle. See our article Hooks for Live Bait Fishing.
  • Use the smallest hooks to match your choice of bait or lures for the most natural presentation.
  • Assure your knots on smaller tackle are tied properly and tightened fully.
  • A small spro swivel can support a 75 pound breaking strength and can even be used in a saltwater wind-on leader instead of a knot.  The small size allows it to pass through the guides and on the reel with no problem.

The high quality hooks and terminal tackle from vendors such as Spro, Tactical Anglers , Gamakatsu are all very strong and in the smaller sizes very compact.    Use an online sizing chart as you might be surprised how strong the new terminal tackle can be.

SUMMARY

The use of tiny terminal tackle and a finesse fishing approach will make you a more successful angler.  The more natural a presentation the more likely a wary fish in clear water will bite.  New offerings from tackle manufacturers such as Spro are much smaller and stronger than anything previously available.
